May and June, 2025

Dear Fellow Laborers in the Lord,

“Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.”—Psalm 37:5

This verse continues to take on a deeper meaning for us in this season. Day by day, we are reminded that our lives, our needs, and our future are in the Lord’s hands. Though this journey has stretched our faith in ways we didn’t expect, we have also seen the Lord open doors we could never have opened on our own.

Church Plant and Discipleship

The weekly Bible studies continue strong, with a genuine hunger for God’s Word. For now, we are still meeting in a home, but we are praying and searching for a more permanent space where we can soon begin hosting Sunday services. It has been encouraging to see a few visitors from my childhood start attending. One of them is Don Marcos, who was known as the troubled drunk in our old neighborhood. Years ago, the Lord allowed me to share the Gospel with him, and he trusted Christ. Now, he and his wife have been faithfully coming to the Bible studies and are excited to see what the Lord will do. Right now, we have around 12–15 faithful attendees. We’ve also begun one-on-one discipleship with a few individuals eager to grow. I just finished teaching a series called Lifeline: The Importance of Biblical Discipleship. The discipleship will span several months, covering core doctrine and practical Christian living. It’s not about a rulebook—it’s about building a relationship with the Lord. It’s humbling to watch God stir hearts with a desire to know Him more. Please pray that these discipleship efforts will bear lasting fruit and strengthen the foundation of this work.

Witnessing Opportunities

The Lord has also given several divine opportunities to share the Gospel. One was with a dentist named Dr. Nelly. She asked why I moved to Mexico and jokingly wondered if I was crazy to leave the States. I had to laugh because it reminded me of Paul and how the Gospel seems like foolishness to the lost. That question opened the door for a deeper conversation. I told her, “If you think I’m crazy for leaving the States, how crazy was it for Jesus to leave heaven to die on a cross for us?” She didn’t make a decision that day for Christ, but it was clear she was under conviction. I invited her to our Bible study and also told her she’s always welcome when we begin regular services. Please pray for her salvation. She is sensitive to the Gospel, but like many professionals in Mexico, she struggles with trusting in something beyond herself.

A Ministry Privilege

On a personal note, I’ve had the privilege of walking my brother-in-law, José, and his fiancée, Karol, through premarital counseling as they prepare for their wedding on October 3rd. It’s been a blessing to guide them during this special time and to point them to Christ as the foundation of their future home. Please pray for them as they take this important step together.

Helping a Struggling Church

In our last letter, we mentioned a nearby church that has been without a pastor for several years. There haven’t been major changes yet, but we’re still working toward a formal meeting with the overseeing ministry to better understand the situation and see how we might help. Please pray for wisdom and clarity as we consider this potential need.

Land Update

A few weeks ago, we shared a special prayer request about the remaining balance on our land. We want to give you an update. The balance of $15,000 USD must be paid in full by July 25th. We stepped out in faith, believing the Lord would provide—and He already is! We are so thankful for the churches and individuals who have already given or promised to help. The Lord is providing for this need, and we trust that He will supply the full amount by the deadline. God is so good, and He deserves all the honor and praise for this! We’re humbled by His mercies every single day. We love and appreciate each of you. Your faithful prayers, encouragement, and support are a constant source of strength. Thank you for continuing to walk with us as we serve the Lord here in Mexico. Let us stay faithful until He comes!

With grateful hearts,

Your Partner in the Lord,

Gavino Hernandez
